D'you want to jam this summer? Are you looking for ways to learn and develop your playing and singing? Want to experience new music and people to start your summer off? 

In conjunction with Cosco Yukon Outfitting Ltd., Yukon Women in Music (YWIM) will hold a music retreat at Marsh Lake’s Old Constabulary subdivision from Friday evening, May 24, until 4:00 on Sunday, May 26. There will be instruction in guitar, mandolin, harmonies, and other instruments, on how to jam, and more - for both beginner and intermediate players.

News about JAMFEST at Marsh Lake! We present…our amazing instructors!!! 

• Guitarist, teacher and vocalist Brenda Lee Katerenchuk will be teaching beginning and intermediate classes on guitar (www.brendaleemusic.com) 
• Well-known piano teacher Roslyn Wilson is stepping out and sharing another of her many skills as our mandolin instructor. 
• It’s a jam weekend and we have a big book of tunes to help you join in. Steve Slade starts you off on Friday to help you understand how to jam. 
• Take your djembe off the shelf! Brigitte Desjardins will get you going on all types of percussion – from traditional French spoons to a shaker to your camp kettle. 
• Bought a ukulele? Bring it along and Steve Slade will help get you started and/or develop as a player. 
• Want to sing harmony to a song, but just can’t get that first note? Barbara Chamberlin will help you hear and sing harmonies. 

JAMFEST is a music retreat presented by Yukon Women in Music in conjunction with Cosco Yukon Outfitting Ltd. It takes place in Marsh Lake’s OldConstabulary subdivision from Friday evening, June 1st until 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 3rd.

YWIM has more Mentorship Funding available! YWIM is really excited to let you know that we’ve secured additional mentorship funding for the current year, some of it ending November 30th and some of it March 31st. Up to two hour sessions available…the cost to you is $20/session.  (This is made possible due to the generosity of the Women's Directorate, Yukon Government, and the Arts Fund, Tourism & Culture, Yukon Government).

Lower overall rates & individual workshop rates improve access for Keno workshop. 

Yukon Women in Music (YWIM) and the Keno Community Club are pleased to announce another rate reduction, as well as the opportunity to register for individual workshops, for the Keno Music & Art Workshop. 

The workshop is a unique opportunity to learn and collaborate, open to adults of all genders. Mature youth can register if accompanied by a responsible guardian. Participants can register for the first week (July 24-30), the second week (July 30-Aug 5), or both. 

· The regular rate for one week is now $250 or $400 for both weeks. 

· The under and un-employed rate is now $175 for one week or $300 for both weeks. 

· The 2-week rate includes all BONUSES (2 hrs of mentorship, demo song recording, & art cards). 

Individual 2-hour workshops are $30 if pre-registered, supplies included, and $40 for a drop-in. These rates do not include the bonuses. Mentorship will be available at a rate of $50/hour.

Pre-registrations are respectfully encouraged, to allow for planning for enough art supplies. 

Come spend a week or two of peaceful, fun, resourceful, creative time in Keno City, Yukon. Make new friends or keep to yourself. Evening activities and open mics will bring people together with the community of Keno to enjoy artistic creations and musical performances of participants, artists-in-residence, and the public, including tourists and artists who may drop in. Evening campfires will be more intimate. 

The workshop offers dedicated time and space to create your own art and music outside and inside in an environment that nurtures inspiration. Professional artists-in-residence, who are also the workshop facilitators, will be onsite to guide, support and mentor participants in both music and visual arts. The workshops are suitable for musicians and artists of all levels and adults of all ages and genders.

Conrad Summer Acoustic Music  Camp 2017

This coming June 2-4, 2017, near the Venus Mine site (2 miles past the Conrad Campground towards Skagway), YWIM is offering an opportunity for emerging to intermediate musicians to camp, play acoustic music and become better, more experienced singers & musicians! 

Two nights of jamming, 2 days of classes and a concert! It starts the evening of Friday June 2, and goes until Sunday June 4, at 1:00 pm. There will also be a performance in Carcross on the Sunday, for those who want to participate and show off their new skills!

Conrad Summer Acoustic Music  Camp 2017

Greetings YWIM! 

The 2017 Keno City Music and Art Workshop for adults is now open for registrations. 
In partnership with Yukon Women in Music and Keno Club, eight professional Yukon artists will spend two weeks in Keno City creating new works as part of their Artist-in-Residency. All Artists in Residence (AiR) will be in Keno for both weeks. 

As a value added component, these Artists will facilitate creative workshops, and provide mentorship for the registered adult participants (19+) for one of the weeks of their residency.  Each evening the AiR’s, along with the registered participants will showcase visual and performance music / art. These occasions will take place at historical venues in Keno City as well as at campfires. 

Workshop takes place from July 24 - Aug 7, 2017 in Keno City.

Keno City Music and Art Workshop 2017

The Keno City Music and Art Workshop, in partnership with Yukon Women in Music and the Keno City Club, will be taking place from July 24 – Aug 7, 2017. Though the workshop is two weeks long, registrants can choose to participate in one or both weeks. All eight hired Artists in Residence (AiR) will be engaged in the workshop for the full two weeks. The purpose of the workshop is serve the Artists in Residence and the Registrants (many of whom are also artists). It is an opportunity for professional artists to share their knowledge and get paid doing it. It is an opportunity for professional artists to have supported time to create new works in an inspiring place.

Keno City is at the end of the road about 285 km southeast of Dawson City and 465 KM north of Whitehorse, but it is an amazing little town full of history and colourful people. The population is about 14 give or take. 

It will be an amazing place to spend the week of Aug 1-7 getting outside of your head. Putting your eyes, hands and heart to work making art. Or putting your ears, voice and heart to work making music. And even share it with others if you are so inclined at the nightly performances and art displays of new and old works.
